The church opens at 12.30 pm for visitors.

Bible collection with the exhibition «Getruckt zů Zürich»: bibles and scriptures of Grossmünster.

Opening hours

The bible collection in the Grossmünster gallery will be closed from January 8 to January 21, 2024 and from February 16 to March 3, 2024 due to renovation work in the bell tower.

Admission entitles you to visit the Karlsturm and to a discount of CHF 5.– on the admission to the collection at Kunsthaus Zürich (CHF 11.– instead of CHF 16.–).

Payments possible in cash, with credit card or with twint.

Immerse yourself in an oasis of peace and contemplation: visit the garden with ornamental plants of cultural history in the centre of the late 12th century cloister and ponder about the meaning of whimsical figures, animal scenes and grimaces.

Silhouette GrossmünsterThe tower (Karlsturm)

A stunning view over the city and the lake all the way to the nearby alps: the audio guide accompanies you on the 187 steps from the nave up to the viewing platform on the Karlsturm.

Tip: you can also experience street art with Naegeli's Dance of Death sprayings.

Please note

  • Tickets can be purchased at the information desk in the church, no reservation is needed (except for groups)
  • Earlier or temporary closures possible due to church events or bad weather.
  • On Tuesday, the tower is not accessible for groups and school classes because of pipe organ lessons.
  • No lift available (187 steps).
  • As only a certain number of people can be on the tower at any given moment, we ask groups and school classes to register in advance with the following contact: / +41 44 250 66 64

Are you visiting the church individually? If you wish, you can rent an audio guide at the ticket desk that will take you through the church and gives background information about the Reformation.

Access by car is permitted between 5 am and 12 pm, but parking is only available with a permit

Access for deliveries for an event in the church is also possible after noon with an access permit in the restricted zone.
